Medieval Castle & Fortifications Books
- Crusader Castle of the Teutonic Knights (1) AD 1230-1466
~Usually Ships Within 24 Hours
- -Stephen Turnbull, Peter Dennis (Illustrator) / Paperback 64 pages / Published November 2003
All though this book by Osprey Publishing is small, it is quite informative and interesting.
Throughout their stormy history the Teutonic Knights of Germany have always been the most controversial brotherhood ever
to call themselves 'Knights of Christ'. They were the most warlike of the religious orders, and this is reflected in the
architecture they left behind. In contrast to the Templars who are remembered for their churches, the Teutonic memorials
are the magnificent brick-built castles constructed as a result of their conquest of Prussia between 1230 and 1380.
Many of these dramatic fortresses still exist today in what is now Poland and provide a unique example of an
architectural style that closely reflects the nature of the Order.

- The Medieval Siege
~ Usually Ships in 5 to 6 Weeks
- -Jim Bradbury / Hardcover / Published September 1992
This book is an excellent introduction to medieval military history, presenting the historical facts at from a new,
interesting and intriguing perspective. Bradbury's primary point is that sieges, and not the battles, were the
decisive factor in medieval warfare. By examining siege warfare from the early Middle Ages to the beginnings of the
Renaissance, the author shows that siege warfare was lengthy, brutal and unchivalrous, with conventions and a
morality all of its own. His subject is fascinating. The beautiful stone castles of Europe were built for war, and
he shows them facing siege engines, assault towers, starvation and disease.
This book is a valuable contribution to medieval military history because of it's detailed description of the practices
and weapons of siege warfare over this medieval time period.

to the fortified cities of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
Hundreds of detailed and thoroughly researched pen-and-ink drawings introduces the reader to a heterogeneous group of buildings whose unique
characteristics show the development and diversity of European medieval military architecture. Each drawing is accompanied by detailed text
describing types of buildings. Moat-and-bailey castles are covered as well later developments in castle construction. Particular castles and cities
are covered with their built-defenses, including arrow splits, pepper-pot towers, drawbridges, and crenelations.
